Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency is a national priority and our designated first fuel. We have been assisting clients in four principal areas to support greater energy efficiency – policy, markets, program design and integrated resource planning.

Practice Areas

Policy. We have helped organizations and jurisdictions anticipate and shape energy policy, achieve Energy Efficiency Resource Standards and strategically respond to policy actions through better preparation and early action.

ISO/RTO Markets. We are monitoring ISO/RTO markets for clients. At ISO-NE, Ryn Hamilton is a member of the Demand Response Working Group where she is representing two clients.

Market Studies. We have provided clients with the market intelligence they need to make informed decisions. This can mean evaluating the advisability of entering a particular market or achieving a fuller understanding the forces shaping their industry.

Program Design. We have helped clients design and improve energy efficiency programs to achieve deeper savings and better operational efficiency.

Integrated Resource Planning. e have led or participated in integrated resource planning studies for utilities and jurisdictions that optimize the mix of resources to deliver cost effective savings from resources that include renewables and demand-side options.

Project Snapshots

Performed an analysis of strategic electrification and efficiency opportunities in a large state’s large food and beverage sector.

Represented two clients on ISO-NE’s Demand Response Working Group which is actively engaged in activities pertaining to energy efficiency as it pertains to Pay for Performance. 2014-present.

Conducted a national roundup of strategic building electrification and efficiency initiatives. Currently developing a set of best practices and recommended actions for broader adoption.

Analyzed the market and utility program potential for heat pump water heaters, and provided a state-by-state incentives and best practices.

Developed profiles of a New England state’s top manufacturing sectors (transportation, chemicals, fabricated metals, machinery and computers & electronic equipment) for demand response and energy efficiency potential.

Prepared a status report on a utility’s emerging market and technologies program, documenting progress to date, early lessons and next steps.

Participated in development of NAESB national and state standards for measurement and verification (baselines) for demand response and energy efficiency resources.

Benchmarked a utility’s clean power electrification pathway, with analysis of initiatives in states that are leading in GHG mitigation.

Summarized the major takeaways from a PUC rate design forum to brief utility staff.

Examined the implications of legislation in a mid-Atlantic state pertaining to demand response and energy efficiency, with an emphasis on cost effectiveness testing and the manner in which dispatch hours are selected.

Participated in development of a business plan for the a mid-western state smart energy design center.
