Competitive Intelligence

Each competitive intelligence case in our practice has been as unique as the individual client and the particular question that required an answer. Because these projects are normally of a sensitive nature they are conducted with the utmost professionalism and respect for client privacy.  We have completed numerous investigations throughout the energy sector and can help you with your confidential intelligence needs.

Project 1. We assisted an investment banker assessing the value of a company to determine whether it should obtain additional venture capital. We analyzed the competitive landscape, distribution path to the end user and market prospects for the technology.

Project 2. We conducted a financial and competitive analysis of this electric utility’s largest customers, which included oil refineries and a large manufacturer.

Project 3. We conducted an analysis of power marketers suspected of targeting the client’s most desirable high load factor customers.  We evaluated the relative strengths and vulnerabilities of each marketer, and broader market opportunities and threats.

Project 4. We conducted a competitor analysis for a utility company to better understand the major threats to each of its unregulated subsidiaries.

Project 5. We participated in a study for a utility client to assess one of its hallmark programs by analyzing similar programs offered by other companies and identifying the attributes that are markers of excellence, in particular related to financing, partnering, advertising and incentives.

Project 6. We conducted an analyses of this client’s peer utilities in the area of customer satisfaction.  We analyzed internal and external drivers of satisfaction, trends and reasons for change.

Project 7.  We conducted a study for a client interested in monetizing its intellectual property. We researched and interviewed senior management at 17 IP commercialization companies and selected five best in class based on criteria developed in consultation with the client.

Project 8. We assessed the market opportunity of entering the utility expense management services business. We profiled companies with the largest market presence and analyzed industry drivers, marketing channels, partnership opportunities and service attributes most valued by customers.

Project 9. We conducted interviews and research into companies that offer a particular energy-related service to create a short list of best in class companies that the client planned to approach to explore possible business partnerships.
